The Fleur de Lis goes back many centuries

Religion and War
• Joan of Arc carried a white banner that showed God blessing the French royal emblem, the fleur-de-lis, when she led French troops to victory over the English in support of the Dauphin, Charles VII, in his quest for the French throne.
• The Roman Catholic Church ascribed the lily as the special emblem of the Virgin Mary.  Due to its three "petals," the fleur-de-lis has also been used to represent the Holy Trinity.
• Military units, including divisions of the United States Army, have used the symbol's resemblance to a spearhead to identify martial power and strength.

Some History
• 1147 - Fleur-de-lis translates as “flower of Louis” and gained the name when Louis VII, who went on the Second French Crusade in 1147, used the emblem on his banner.
• 1682 - The fleur de lis, French for the “flower of life,” has been a symbol that represents the rich French culture of Louisiana ever since La Salle claimed a large part of the central continent for King Louis XIV in 1682.

Some of my History
• 1970 - I was born in Southwestern Louisiana and over the years visited New Orleans many times.  I came to love taking trips to New Orleans just to experience the culture, food (such great food), architecture, people, and of course the nightlife.
• 2005 – The fleur de lis popularity began to grow exponentially after Hurricane Katrina.  Some see it as being over exposed and over commercialized.  Fleur de Lis tattoos and stickers are everywhere.
• 2006 – My family and I moved to the New Orleans area (Northshore) after 7 years in Michigan.  It was great to be back home.  We missed out on Katrina.  I’m still not sure if that was a blessing or a curse.  Our house would have cost a lot less if we had purchased it before Katrina.  We arrived a year after Katrina, and things were still no where near being back to normal. Some things are still not back to normal and probably never will be, even after 4 years.
• 2008 – I came up with the Fleur de Faith design.  The fleur de lis is a symbol that I have always associated with New Orleans, even though I know it has a long and varied history.  I wanted to use it in some kind of graphic / symbol that would combine the Southern culture and the strength and resilience of the people.  I believe that a large part of the strength and resilience of the people comes from their Faith.  It does not matter if that Religion is Catholic, Baptist, Pentacostal, etc.  All of these religions have at least one thing in common.  That THING is a belief in a higher power (God for me), and that takes FAITH.

"And now these three remain; Faith, Hope, and Love.  But the greatest of these is Love."  1 Corinthians 13:13
I believe that the Fleur de Lis represents the Hope and Love people have for their family, friends, heritage, and country.  I also believe that, in order for something to last and withstand the test of time, it needs a solid foundation.  That foundation is Faith.  These three things together make:
Fleur de Faith
